A Year of Impact: 2020 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Report

From: Kelly Hannah-Moffat, VP, People Strategy, Equity & Culture

Amid an unprecedented year of change and transformation, the U of T community came together in 2020 to organize, advocate, and implement initiatives supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion across our institution. The impact of that work is reflected in the 2020 Equity, Diversity & Inclusion report.

I am excited to share the full report as well as a webpage that introduces the report at a glance.

We have emerged from an incredibly difficult year with some clarity, and we are building on this momentum in 2021 and beyond.

Current initiatives of our institutional Equity Office include launching, in partnership with the Office of the President and Office of the Provost, a new interactive dashboard to track the implementation of recommendations outlined in the Anti-Black Racism Task Force Report. Our team is also developing an Equity Hub that will provide the U of T community with a range of EDI resources, toolkits, guides, workshops, and events from across the institution. As well, on November 18, 2021, the University signed the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education: Principles, Actions and Accountability, which we will implement in partnership with our community.

Thank you to the many students, staff, faculty, librarians, and community members who committed countless hours of your time and emotional labour to bring these initiatives—both past and ongoing—to life. Your passion, commitment, and efforts are deeply appreciated as we work together to create and sustain a culture of belonging at U of T.
