Call for Nominations – U of T Anti-Asian Racism Working Group

From: Vikram Chadalawada, Assistant Director, Student Information System, Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI); Professor Carol Chin, Principal, Woodsworth College

We are honoured to serve as the co-chairs of the U of T Anti-Asian Racism Working Group. The Working Group acknowledges the intersectionality of identities and the varied impacts of anti-Asian racism on members of our community. Our goals are to listen to community feedback, review University policies and practices, and provide recommendations for advancing inclusion for Asian community members across the tri-campus. You can read more about the goals of the Working Group, and the important work that lies ahead, on the Working Group’s webpage.

We invite all interested members of our community to nominate themselves to serve on the Working Group with us this year. We seek to include a diversity of voices on the issue of Asian inclusion and excellence in this work. We welcome students, faculty, staff, librarians, instructors, and researchers to serve on the Working Group.

The Working Group will meet from September 2022 through to December 2022.  Working Group members should be available to join monthly or biweekly online meetings, with some reading and preparation work between meetings.

Self-nominations may be submitted online via the Working Group’s webpage by Thursday, July 28, 2022. Please describe your lived experience, education/teaching/research expertise, student engagement, community leadership, or other experiences with anti-Asian racism that would make you a strong contributor to the Working Group.

The Working Group will engage in broad collaboration and consultation with the U of T community. There will be many opportunities to contribute your ideas and recommendations. We invite you to keep visiting the Working Group’s webpage to share your ideas, and to stay tuned for other consultation opportunities in the coming months. The Working Group will be presenting its findings and recommendations to the President, the Vice President and Provost, and the Vice-President, People Strategy, Equity & Culture.
